The situation
At Bricknode Joakim led engineering and product: a department of 17, four of whom had moved with Joakim from Nord Fondkommission. Engineering and operations (SRE) worked as separate teams, and the .NET applications on Azure had to keep running while Joakim set the strategy for a next-generation platform on Google Cloud.
What Joakim did
- Moved engineering and SRE to DevSecOps: one backlog, shared sessions, no silos.
- Introduced company-wide release management: builds from source control in Azure DevOps, test environments and sign-off by an appointed release manager before each release.
- Built Jira epic workflows with a handover to testing before release and to marketing before closure.
What came of it
A release went out after a build from source control, testing and the sign-off of the release manager, and operations worked from the same backlog as engineering.
